What a balance left in the account earns

A Livret A and an LDDS earn 1.7% a year, from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027. The State sets the rate. service-public.fr checked both pages on 1 August 2026. The Banque de France states the same LDDS rate since 1 August 2026.

The deposit ceiling is €22,950 for a Livret A held by a natural person, and €12,000 for an LDDS. Interest added on 31 December can take the balance above the ceiling. Further deposits then stop.

Interest on a Livret A and on an LDDS is exempt from income tax and social charges. Deposits and withdrawals are possible at any time. On an LDDS, they stay within the ceiling.

The calculation applies the annual rate to the amount entered, or to the ceiling when the amount is higher. It is not the fortnight calculation, and interest is not added during the year.

Is the interest taxed?

No. Interest on a Livret A and on an LDDS is exempt from income tax and social charges.
